The Way Back Support Service

A suicide prevention service available to people discharged from the Emergency Departments at The Tweed Hospital and Lismore Base Hospital.

The Way Back is a follow-up service, specifically designed by beyondblue, to support people after a suicide attempt. It is a free-of-charge, non-clinical, assertive outreach service focused on empowering people to connect with formal and informal supports by providing guidance, encouragement, motivation and follow-up for up to a three month period immediately following a suicide attempt.

Support is collaborative and it compliments existing services so as to avoid duplication and, or confusion. The service provides continuity of care between primary points of contact (following a suicide attempt) and community services that are able to address the concerns of each individual.

This is one of several key programs adopted on the North Coast to improve access to and quality of mental health services in our region.
