Demystifying Medical Cannabis

Dr Gull Herzberg from Bellingen Healing Centre and Southern Cross Medical Specialists will be presenting an information session on the misconceptions, case studies and pathways to prescribing medical cannabis.

Many people who consult Dr Herzberg suffer from chronic pain, fatigue, cognitive dysfunction and mood disturbance within a wide range of diagnoses despite otherwise maximal treatment. Over the past few years patients have increasingly been asking about and using illicit cannabis to treat their conditions, or at least their symptoms, sometimes remarkably successfully. Being impressed by the personal experiences of some of his patients and examining the relevant medical literature, Dr Herzberg completed an RACGP-accredited medical cannabis training course in 2018 and has been prescribing medical cannabis through the TGA for patients locally since then.

Despite the administrative difficulties, Dr Herzberg has been impressed by the progress many have made and he is keen to share his experience, knowledge and understanding with other clinicians so that more people might benefit from this useful clinical tool.
