“Is this Normal?” Guiding Families Through the First Year of Life

Suitable for GPs, practice nurses, allied health practitioners, early childhood nurses and lactation consultants.

Patients affected with difficulties during the first days of life are complex, multilayered and require a multidisciplinary approach.

Primary care clinicians have a key role in assisting families during the first year of life. Services for young children and their families are often fragmented and difficult to access in regional and rural Australia, and parents often report receiving conflicting advice from varying practitioners.

This multidisciplinary event offers evidence based information that will assist practitioners to offer best possible care for young children and their families.

Fran Chavasse, Senior Educator from Tresillian will be presenting, with a panel of subject matter experts in attendance to answer questions and specific local needs.

By attending this workshop, participants will have increased their confidence, knowledge and skills to enable them to:

  • Explain sleep as a developmental process through focus on the parent-child relationship.
  • Recognise signs of parent child relationship issues or concerns.
  • Promote a secure parent-child relationship.
  • Refer appropriately in cases of:
    • sleep disturbance.
    • feeding problems.
    • parent-child relationship issues or concerns.
    • parenting issues or concerns.
  • Apply mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Use HealthPathways to assist with management of children during the first year of life.
