November Update: Healthy Towns Maclean

Over the past two months Healthy Towns Maclean has been busy organising events and co-ordinating and supporting activities. Read on to find out about some of the initiatives we have progressed so far.

The Local Advisory Group has been formed and is working towards progressing shortlisted initiatives. The first Local Advisory Group meeting was held on 8 September. The membership and terms of reference were agreed and a shortlist of 15 Initiatives was endorsed by the group.

These are all at various stages of approval, design and implementation. Next Local Advisory Group meeting will be held on 20 November 2018.

On Tuesday 30 October, we had a wonderful day at McLachlan Park, with over 15 service providers coming along to provide information and activities. Our Healthy Clarence and Headspace assisted on the BBQ providing the Healthy Towns lunch, while Alistair Smith entertained on the bagpipes.
Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) launched their Glovebox Guide to Mental Health.

This event was a great way to close out Mental Health Month. For more information and to check out some pictures from the day,  click here

During the day a community Canvas was commenced for Maclean. This large canvas shares what people feel about Living in Maclean. This is a living canvas and can be added to at any time, contact Carolyn to have it displayed and added to at your next event.

The Maclean Community Fun day presented a fabulous opportunity to enable the Community members to add to the Giant Maclean What’s on Calendar.

The Calendar will be moving into the final design phase in December – take this opportunity to advise Carolyn of any events you wish to be added to the calendar as soon as possible.

The Community Soup Kitchen in Maclean has been dwindling in participation and healthy towns has been promoting the Soup Kitchen to assist.

We wish for the community to be aware of the wonderful social interaction opportunity that happens every Monday at the CWA Hall in Maclean from 6 – 7pm. All community are welcome to this regular Community Soup Kitchen.

Healthy Towns consultations in Maclean identified a strong community need for low-cost and easy to access exercise options. We’ve partnered with the Local Health District (LHD) to deliver two (2) new activities in Maclean.

  • Tai Chi every Monday from 1pm-2pm in the Maclean Community Health Group Room cost $36 for 6 Weeks or $8 per class contact Linda Ph: 6620 7519.
  • Heart Foundation Walking Group every Friday at 7am from Wherrett Park, Maclean.
